Our First Haul Out

Post written by Marissa,

The day after we returned from our Coastal Passage Making class, Ripley was due for a haul-out for new bottom paint. This was a little nerve-racking, since it was my first time driving the boat into the sling - but the winds were calm, I didn’t panic, and everything went smoothly. Before I knew it, Shane and I had climbed up the ladder and were watching Ripley slowly rise from the water.

They washed her off, then transferred her from the sling, to a trailer, to a set of stands held together by chain.

As the boatyard workers hauled our boat out of the water, Shane and I realized that 6 weeks had slid by without our attention, which is far too long to ignore the constant maintenance a boat requires. So, we took the advice of Don Casey and made a couple of prioritization matrices:

This weekend we’ll be tackling the most important items on the priority matrix list: the immediate, structural items.
