New Lines

a pile of double-braid nylon rope
It's rope until it's on a boat, then it becomes line.

When we first purchased Ripley, one of the projects we knew we wanted to tackle right away was upgrading the running rigging and dock lines. We thought it would be more interesting and cost-effective if we learned how to splice the lines ourselves. The instructions that came with the fid were very helpful and walked us through it step-by-step. After about 2-3 hours, we finally had this:

spliced double-braided nylon dock lines
A finished eye splice.

The ends of the rope that weren’t spliced needed to be whipped. We followed Capitan Mike’s method, and it worked like a charm.
