Change Engine Impeller
Frequency: yearlyThe Yanmar manual says this should be replaced every 600hrs.
Items Required
- 12mm wrench (?)
- Replacement impeller and impeller cover o-ring
- Dish soap
- Grease
Procedure
- Close engine raw water seacock.
- Remove impeller cover. This will leak seawater all over the engine into the bilge, capture if desired.
- Remove impeller. Use extractor bolt if threaded, otherwise use pliers on vanes closest to core alternating sides of shaft.
- Apply grease to shaft & impeller mating surfaces.
- Lubricate new impeller vanes with dish soap.
- Insert new impeller optionally using a nylon tie to compress vanes.
- Clean cover and pump mating surfaces.
- Apply dish soap to new o-ring and insert into channel.
- Install cover.
- Open engine raw water seacock.
- Run engine, check for leaks.
